Description
Here's the finished painting of the girl in Afghanistan. After reading Khaled Housseini's books, the country has always held a special place in my heart. I ache for the loss of life and the blood of innocence burning in the skies. I hope a day comes when children are no longer punished by acts of destruction.
Of all the work I've done, it's always the paintings of people that have passed that pull at my insides. Each piece is a little reminder that we are not here for long, so don't waste a day doing what you don't want to and don't love to. This little girl had no idea she would cease to exist a few minutes after being photographed(this painting is based off that photograph). She was walking by and james held the camera by his hip to take the picture without her noticing, but she did. He smiled when he told me that, " she looked at me suspiciously and knew what I was doing." A few minutes later, the bazaar was blown up by a suicide bomber and her family perished.
It's a blessing to be able to immortalize and document the existence of people and sometimes it's the only proof they have walked this earth. I believe the work I'm doing now or have begun recently is more important any mere replication of an image or thing or person. It is the documentation of history, the era, our wars, the consequences of those wars, our clothes, our streets, our technologies, our inner beings and universal raw emotions that cross language barriers to bring about the roots(sometimes forgotten and overlooked) of humanity. Thank you for taking the time to view this piece and I appreciate every ounce of support on my artistic journey. Thank you James for letting me play a small part in your story. Enjoy.
